The Suffering of Christ

The suffering of Christ, as revealed in the Gospels, is both intense and compelling. If we will meditate on its magnitude and purpose, His sufferings will move us.

No graphic descriptions are given of his sufferings, just statements of the facts. Believing in inspiration, we know that these are the exact words God intends us to have. In order to fully grasp the magnitude of Christ's sufferings, we need to engage our mind and allow the Holy Spirit to work.

2. The suffering of Christ is intensified by things that cannot be seen.

This requires me to process His physical sufferings with other truths.

a. Jesus was sinless.

b. The injustice was great.

c. The weight of the separation from the Father. 

d.  All was done willingly and on purpose.

e. Other factors:  mocking, abandonment

3. The suffering of Christ is meant to impact our lives.

a. It demonstrates the price paid to redeem me.

b. It increases my love and worship, for it was for me.

c. It is intructive on how to endure suffering.

d. It motivates us to follow Him and serve Him regardless of the potential for suffering.

e. It encourages me to come to Christ when I am suffering.
